Our Impact

Since its founding in 2009, the Louisa Education Foundation (“LEF”) has sought to create a positive impact in the community by investing in teachers and students.  LEF offers Senior Scholarships for students and Creative Teacher Grants to educators across the county’s schools.

To date, LEF has issued 96 Senior Scholarships totaling $79,500.

In 2023 alone, LEF issued 22 Senior Scholarships and 12 Creative Teacher Grants. For 2024, the goal is to award $12,000 in student scholarships and $10,000 in creative instructional grants.

Scholarships from Others

Beyond raising funds for the LEF Scholarship and Creative Teacher Grant Programs, LEF also administrates independent scholarships, offered by other entities and organizations who support students in Louisa County.

LEF has administered 87 such scholarships totaling $150,050.

Making a Difference

Three examples of the difference LEF has made in the county:

First, a recent Creative Teacher Grant helped fund the 24® Math Challenge Program, which teaches children math basics without fear. In addition, the program expands strategic thinking and adaptive reasoning abilities, laying the groundwork for higher-order math skills. Each year the program ends with a systemwide competition to determine which students will advance to a Championship Event!  Over a period of months preceding the event, teachers use the 24 Game to help students hone their mathematics skills.

Second, Louisa County was hit by a major earthquake in 2011, damaging several schools, including the Louisa County High School, which was damaged beyond repair. The Louisa Education Foundation took on the task as a Fundraiser and conduit for donations. Through various fundraising efforts, including a concert by Alan Jackson, over $230,000 was raised or donated through LEF and given to the School System for earthquake repairs.

Third, the Foundation supported the recent initiation of the Dolly Pardon Imagination Library Program. It’s a a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, no matter their family’s income.
