Welcoming our Executive Director

We are thrilled to welcome Carrie Hicks as LEF’s new Executive Director.  A proud Louisa native and LCHS graduate, Carrie comes to us with a background of 16 years as an educator with Louisa County Public Schools.  She has spent the past five years in nonprofit management as the Development Manager at the Louisa County Resource Council (LCRC).  Deeply rooted in this community, Carrie is excited to leverage her recent nonprofit experience and passion for education to support students and educators in her new role with LEF.

 At LCRC, Carrie spearheaded fundraising, grant writing, and strategic communications while cultivating strong donor relationships.  Before transitioning to the nonprofit sector, she taught English at Louisa County High school, served as adviser for The Lion’s Roar newspaper, and directed the student leadership program.  

 During her tenure with the leadership and newspaper programs, Carrie served as creator and coordinator for community-wide events like The Lion Pride Run and the Hometown Homecoming Parade.  Through these ventures, she witnessed firsthand the incredible support this community has for our students and school system.  As executive director at LEF, she is excited to return to the work she finds most rewarding: building meaningful connections and cultivating partnerships that uplift and empower the youth in our community.

Carrie holds a bachelor’s degree in English/Secondary Education and master’s degree in Literature from Longwood University.  She and her husband Derrick, also a lifelong Louisa resident, now have two Louisa Lions of their own in the house.  In August, their youngest begins her freshman year at LCHS, joining her sister who will be entering her senior year.  

Carrie is honored to join the Louisa Education Foundation and eager to get to work supporting our students, educators, and school system.
